Hagerman Police officers are investigating a dead body discovered in a canal on Tuesday morning.
A resident out for a morning walk discovered the body of a 69-year-old man in the Hagerman Canal about 100 yards from Allsup’s at about 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, said Police Chief Cassius Mason.
“He was out fishing along the irrigation ditch and apparently suffered some type of medical event and fell into the ditch,” Mason said.
“We do not suspect foul play at this time, but we are sending the body to the Office of the Medical Investigator,” the police chief said.
The investigation is ongoing, Mason said. Authorities are not releasing the name of the man, pending notification of the family.
