Dance at Roswell Adult Center

MUFON to meet

The August [auth] meeting of the Chaves County section of MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) will convene from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Roswell Adult Center, Eighth Street and Missouri Avenue. The meeting is open to the public and will feature a lecture and slide presentation on biohazard issues relating to UFO crash retrievals. American Legion monthly meeting to take place

Democrats hold Meet and Greet

The Democratic Party of Chaves County will hold a Meet and Greet for Maggie Oliver, democratic candidate for the office of Secretary of State, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Democratic Party of Chaves County’s headquarters, located at 2801 N. Main St. in the Wilshire Plaza.


Discussion on charter schools

Rick Hess, an American educator, political scientist and author, will be discussing how New Mexico policymakers can maximize New Mexico’s charter school law for the benefit of its students. Hess is resident scholar and director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, a position he has held since 2002. A former high school social studies teacher, he has taught at the University of Virginia, the University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown, Rice and Harvard universities. The discussion will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Liberty, 312 Virginia St. The cost is $10, which includes light snacks and nonalcoholic drinks.


Ladies Newcomers Club to meet

Coyote Camp

All incoming Roswell High School freshmen are invited to attend Coyote Camp — a fun orientation day planned just for them from 9 a.m. until 12p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. Students will meet teachers and new classmates, tour the school and lockers and learn how to make their freshman year great.


Pecos Valley Quilters meeting to take place

Sand volleyball tournament

Roswell Hispano Chamber of Commerce and Epiq will be hosting a sand volleyball tournament that will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 and 10.
