Larry-BilligLarry E. Billig, 90, of Roswell, went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2014. He was born May 7, 1924, in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his son, Bob Billig [auth] and wife Colleen of Neosho, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Billig of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Cindy McTeigue and husband, Curtis of Roswell; and daughter, Darlene Sivyer and husband Larry of Palmer, Alaska. His family included nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Shellburn; brother, Richard Billig; son, Kenneth Billig and great-grandson, Evan Billig.

Larry, received a Meritorious Service Award for 10-year 4-H Leadership in the Horse Program, Service Award for 19 years Volunteer Fire Department of LaJara, Colorado, 40+ year AA Member, Sponsor and Spokesman, Member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired from Public Service Company of Colorado.

Dad enjoyed and emphasized to his family the importance of working hard. He enjoyed riding and training horses, and led many trail rides for the 4-H youth in the high country of Colorado. Fishing was a common pastime with his family and he was also a hunter. After retirement he lived in many places. He enjoyed dancing and continued his love of gambling. He was proud to have won 6th place in the World Poker Tournament, in 2000.

Dad loved animals, and enjoyed caring and being around “old” people, of which he never considered himself. He enjoyed gardening, conversation, his pipe, and his last two years were filled with endless domino games.

I would like to thank the staff and friends at Peachtree for their friendship and service. My heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Corliss Clees, family and friends who sat by his side, in one of the most sad days of my life.

Private services will be scheduled at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of choice.
