A funeral for Eldon Wesley Whitten, 82, of Dexter, NM, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 211 N. Cambridge, Hagerman, NM, with Pastor Herb Gage. Military Honors will be provided by Roswell Veterans Honor Guard. Eldon served during the Korean War in the Navy Submarine Service. He passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014.
Eldon was born August 26, 1931, in Adrian, Texas, to Euclid Thomas Whitten Jr. and Ava Roberson Whitten. He married Barbara Stefanik on February 14, 1974. Eldon was raised at a family homestead, outside Portales, NM, he attended Eastern NM University in Portales as he studied Business Administration. He helped write rules and regulations for magistrate court for NM late 1960s, was appointed in 1962 and served as justice of peace, also from 1968 to 1970, he served as Magistrate Judge in Portales, NM; he also worked construction and as a book-keeper. For personal use, he later trained horses.
Eldon is survived by his son, Michael Whitten of El Paso, Texas; son, Leo Whitten of Hagerman, NM; daughter, Charlotte Faye Trujillo of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Eulene Charles Whitten of Elwood, Nebraska; brother, Elmer “Red” Whitten of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Whitten, Brandon Whitten, Robin Whitten, Nathan Whitten, Diana Whitten, Jesus Soto, Michelangelo Whitten, Charlotte Whitten, Christopher Whitten. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Eldon was preceded in death by his father, Euclid Thomas Whitten and mother, Ava Roberson Whitten; son, Richard Neil Whitten; brother, Euclid “Sonny” Whitten III; sister, Erma Leta Pachelli; sister, Eunela F. Whitten Lee; brother, Ernest Whitten; brother, Edwin Whitten.
Pallbearers will be children, Leo and Michael Whitten.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to First Baptist Church (Jireh Ministry), 5th Penn, Roswell, NM.
