LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Police in southern New Mexico have arrested a man suspected of killing his mother with a sword.
Las Cruces police say 35-year-old Joshua Hunt was arrested and charged Friday with one [auth] count of first-degree murder and one count of tampering with evidence in the death of 56-year-old Lisa Cano.
Detectives say Hunt apparently woke up around 4 a.m. Friday and began thinking about how his mother had treated him over the years. They say he then went into his mother’s bedroom and struck her in the head and hand with a long sword.
Hunt’s 31-year-old wife and their two young children were in the home and thought to be asleep at the time. After killing his mother, police say Hunt walked into his bedroom and told his wife to call police.
