Funeral services will be held for Jay W. Henke, 77, of Roswell, NM, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Christ Church with Lonnie Owen officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service following at 7 p.m. at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel.
Jay was born August [auth] 23, 1936, in Melrose, Massachusetts, to Jay Wesley Henke and Elizabeth Mason Henke. He worked with several companies: TMC, James Hamilton Construction and Glovers.
His hobby was metal detecting and he was a sports fan – always routing for the underdog. Jay was known to help everyone, especially his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are 8 children: Debbie Henke of Las Cruces, David Henke of Las Cruces NM; Richard Henke of Las Cruces Michelle Sanchez and husband Frank of Roswell; Roxanne Echaverria and husband Paul of Roswell; Bernadette Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM; Miracle Henke of Roswell; and Joliza Henke of Roswell. Jay is also survived by 1 sister, Elizabeth Baker and husband Gary of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren: A.J., Savannah, Roman, Ryan, Amber, Reis, Jay and Matthew. Also surviving him is the mother of his children Ofelia Henke and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by both parents, a daughter, Virginia Henke; brother, Mason Henke; and 2 sisters, Pat Henke and Jean Henke.
Pallbearers will be: Frank Sanchez, Rene’ Lujan, Ruben Sanchez, Tivso Nunez, A.J. Hernandez and Jeffrey Nunez. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jay Henke III, Faye Henke, Miracle Henke, Joliza Henke, Ralph Young, Robin Cox, Randy Wagner, and Stan Lair.
