A 57-year-old Roswell man died Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle near mile post 15 on State Road 2 in Chaves County.
According to the New Mexico State Police, a 2012 Harley Davidson driven by Philip Lopez Jr. was traveling north on State Road 2 around 7:15 p.m. and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. Lopez lost control, left the road and traveled through a barbed-wire fence. It appeared Lopez was thrown from the motorcycle, the report stated.
State police said there was no evidence that Lopez was wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Contributing factors were determined to be speed and driver inattention. Alcohol is not considered a factor.
