Bicyclist dead after a train accident in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a [auth] bicyclist is dead after being struck by a Rail Runner train in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe police say the incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

They say the bicyclist and train collided as the man on the bike crossed the tracks and the train crossed the sidewalk.

Police say the unidentified bicyclist was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

They say it’s unclear if he was wearing a helmet or headphones.

Police say the arms, bells, and signals for the Rail Runner were working at the time of the accident.

The police department’s Traffic Fatality Unit is at the scene along with investigators from the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

The nearly 200 passengers on the train were taken by bus to their destinations.
