One hundred and fourteen Eastern New Mexico Medical Centers volunteers recently received certificates of appreciation and gifts at the annual Awards and Appreciation luncheon presented by the hospital. Their team efforts totaled 275,875 volunteer hours. Since 1958, the volunteers have helped friends and neighbors who enter the doors of the hospital and operated a thriving thrift [auth] shop at 221 E. Wildy St. The volunteers’ commitment and devotion have contributed significantly to the success of the hospital and the promotion of health care in Roswell.

Receiving an award pin for 20,500 hours of service was Ruth Browning who has volunteered in the gift shop since 1989. Recognized for 16,000 of volunteer time was Gene Devitt who joined the Auxiliary in 1993 and has devoted her time in the Auxiliary’s thrift shop. As past-president, Laura Jennings was honored for 59 years as a member of the ENMMC Auxiliary. Lynda Whalen, director of Volunteer Services, received an award for the 2013 Top Adult Volunteer Program.

The Auxiliary has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to students in the health care field since 1958. Funds are earned through sales in the thrift and gift shops, fundraisers, memorials, donations and membership dues.
