Police Blotter: Police investigate mugging, assault

Gabriel Horton, 32, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Sunday, after officers responded to the area of Atkinson Avenue and Pear Street in reference to a call about a man with a gun.

The man, later identified as Horton, had reportedly pointed the gun at an individual and fled, according to police.

Dispatch was able to inform officers that Horton may have headed toward Eldora Drive. A man matching Horton’s description was found by officers on the 800 block of Eldora Drive. Horton was commanded by officers to put his hands up. Instead of complying with the officer’s commands, Horton ran into a [auth] residence on the 800 block of Eldora Drive. Officers ordered Horton out of the residence via patrol car public address system. Horton complied, was detained and arrested.

Through the course of the investigation, officers discovered Horton had allegedly pointed a handgun at three individuals. Two of the individuals were in a vehicle with their two young children when Horton allegedly pointed a gun at them and demanded they exit the vehicle. Instead of exiting, the driver put the vehicle in reverse to get away. Another individual was sitting in the bed of his truck and Horton allegedly pointed a gun at him as well.

Horton has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count of child abuse, and one count of eluding an officer.

Officers took Horton to the Chaves County Detention Center where he remains on a $25,000 cash only bond.


Police respond to 44 calls over weekend

Roswell Police officers responded to 44 incidents over the weekend. Officers responded to various incidents including child abuse, shots fired, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Over 26 adults were arrested over the weekend. Some of the charges include child abuse, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, and trafficking methamphetamine.


Police investigate mugging

RPD detectives are currently investigating the attack on a 43-year-old woman who was assaulted and robbed.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 11:30 p.m. on the 100 block of South Pennsylvania Avenue. The woman had exited her vehicle when she was hit on the head and knocked unconscious.

When she regained consciousness she realized her wallet and necklace were missing. The woman sustained injuries and had to seek medical assistance.
