BakerDella (Adela) Baker, 95, of Roswell passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 17, 2014 at Casa Maria Healthcare Center, Roswell, NM.

A rosary will be held at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel at 7 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2014. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 AM Friday, March 21, 2014 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Pacquing officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 1 PM – 7PM. Della’s ashes will be interned at Grandview Cemetery in Ft Collins, CO.

She was born in Santa Clara, CO on April 26, 1918. Della was one of five children born to Daniel and Adelaide [auth] Apodaca; both have preceded her in death. Della was raised in Ft. Collins and attended a convent for three years in Chicago. She met and married Eloy in 1943 and they had five children. During that time she worked as a nurse assistant helping deliver babies at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne, WY. Eloy preceded her in death in 1962. She married Wilbur J. Baker in 1964. They traveled with the Air Force and retired in Boulder, CO. Della spent her time at the Carmel Home where she worked with adults who were intellectually disabled. Wilber preceded her in death in 1979. In 1980 she moved to Roswell, NM and has resided here for thirty-two years. She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her family; sister, Mary Anderson of Littleton, CO; daughters, MaryAnn Martinez and son-in-law, John of Cheyenne, WY., Vangie Maestas and son-in-law, Rudy of Boulder, CO., Paula Trujillo and son-in-law, Samuel of Ft. Collins, CO., and son, Ernest Lopez and daughter-in-law Yolanda of Roswell, NM. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-children, and six great-great-grandchildren. Her family also includes numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Della committed her life to following the Lord Jesus Christ and being involved with her family whom she treasured. Della served faithfully in her church and volunteered in several community and civic organizations. She cherished life and was very active until the very end.

Della was preceded in death by her first husband, Eloy Lopez; son, Daniel Lopez; second husband Wilbur James Baker; and brothers, Louis Apodaca and Adolph Apodaca.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Martinez, Rudy Maestas, Samuel Trujillo, Tim Cisneros, Ruben Lopez, and James Martinez.
