Funeral Services for Robert James (Bob) Bolin, 89 of Lovington, NM are scheduled for 1:00 pm Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Hillcrest Baptist Church of Lovington, NM with Pastor Travis VanMeter officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home of Lovington, NM. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Robert James (Bob) Bolin was born January 4, 1925 in Garber, OK to Thomas Eldorado and Eva Pearl (Haight) Bolin. He went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 15, 2014, in Lubbock, TX. He served in the US Navy as a radar operator during WWII beginning in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Joyce Irene Morrow on May 25, 1946 in Hobbs, NM. They were married for 65 years prior to her death on December 9, 2012. Together they raised 6 children. Bob graduated from Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa, OK in 1943 where he was a good football player. He graduated from ENMU in Portales, NM with a BA in journalism. He retired as a manager with the NM Department of Labor after 31 years of service. He worked part time for Walker Machine in Hobbs, NM for several years after retirement. Bob was an accomplished writer. He published over 74 short stories in Christian and youth magazines. He published numerous poems and over 18 stories in science fiction magazines. He published a book in the 1980’s. He also wrote hundreds of stories about his family, trips, and events during his life. Bob’s hobbies included playing harmonica, bowling, swimming and writing. He started playing the harmonica during his childhood and he played his harmonica every Sunday at the Lovington Good Samaritan Society along with several other musicians and friends as a means of entertainment for the residents.
Bob is survived by 3 sons: Bobby (Jeanne) of Roswell, NM, Gary (Kathy) of Hope, AR, and Tommy (Louisa) of Lovington, NM, 3 daughters: Belinda (Gary) Truesdell of Hobbs, NM, Barbara (Dale) Shepherd of Lovington, NM, and Betty (Kim) Gramse of Richfield, Utah, 3 sister-in-laws: Josavel Guenther of Sherman, TX, Corrine (Nat) Brawley of Texoma, OK, and Ella Mae (Bob) Hamlett of Lubbock, TX. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 brother-in-laws, his father-in-law, and his mother-in-law.
