SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The Sen[auth] ate has approved Gov. Susana Martinez’s choice to run the Department of Transportation.
Tom Church was unanimously confirmed on Friday as cabinet secretary of the agency, which has a budget of about $860 million this year.
The governor appointed Church last year after Alvin Dominguez retired as the agency’s top executive.
Church has worked for the department for 21 years, including as chief of staff and deputy secretary of business and financial operations.
He graduated from high school in Roswell and from the University of Northern Colorado.
Still awaiting confirmation are two of the governor’s cabinet secretaries — Public Education Secretary Hanna Skandera and Environment Secretary Ryan Flynn. They can continue to serve in their posts unless rejected by the Senate.
