Elite gym to hold powerlift competition saturday to help benefit sgt. meredith

Elite Gym, 2101 N. Atkinson Ave, is having a powerlift competition to benefit Sgt. Steve Meredith, who received debilitating injuries in October 2013 while on duty and assisting with traffic control during an New Mexico [auth] State Police investigation.

The competition takes place Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m. and includes a bench press, squats and dead lift. Participants will be rated by age group.

The registration fee is $85 before Saturday. If registrants wait until Saturday, the fee is $100.

According to an Elite Gym representative, 50 percent of all proceeds will go to help to pay for medical bills not covered by insurance.

This is the second sporting event held in Meredith’s name. The previous Fun Run had about 400 people who attended.
