Jeffery Scott Parker, 54, passed on Jan. 13, 2014, after a brief illness. Jeff was born on Dec. 11, 1959, at Offutt Air Base in Omaha, Neb. His early years were spent in Japan, Thailand, Virginia, Louisiana, Iowa and California, prior to the family being stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, in 1975.
Jeff had a lifelong appreciation for the west Texas way of life. He always wore his Cowboy hat and boots with pride while listening to Willie, Waylon and the Boys. He loved riding bulls, coaching Pop Warner football and bass fishing.
On June 12, 1983, Jeff married Donna Owen Boyer in Abilene, Texas. He moved his family to Austin in 1987, in order to attend Southwest Texas State University. As a student working in the marine industry, Jeff turned his passion for fishing into a successful career; he and his family purchased Austin Boats and Motors in Lakeway, Texas, in 1996. There, he surrounded himself with his family and took great pride in their ability to work as a team, being most proud that each of his children shared his dedication in building a successful family business.
After becoming a grandfather in 2004, there was nothing Jeff cherished more than spending time with his grandchildren. Lovingly known as ‘Grandad,’ it was his granddaughter, Ashtyn, who asked him to attend church and Jeff, never one to turn down time spent with the babies, attended faithfully. Jeff expressed his spirituality through his love of music and enjoyed volunteering in the church nursery.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Martin, and wife, Amanda; daughters: Holly, and husband, Todd Riffe, Robyn, and husband, Corey Hess, Ashlea and Faith, and partner, Peter Binion, all of the Austin area. Grandad adored his five grandchildren: Ashtyn, Katelyn, Hudson, Marly and Landon. He is survived by his father, Gerald, of Lakeway; his mother, Nancy, of Medina Lake; his sister, Julie, of San Antonio; and brother, John, of Abilene.
Honorary pallbearers are Darrel Bethany, Joey Westerman, Michael Clark, Erik Ruiz, James ‘JR’ Morgan and Howard Carson.
A celebration of life will be held at Austin Ridge Bible Church on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. Those wishing to make donations in Jeff’s honor are asked to consider Side by Side Kids Ministry at Jeff’s Church: Austin Ridge Bible Church, Gift: In Honor of Jeff Parker, Side By Side Kids Ministry, 9300 Bee Cave Road, Austin, Texas 78738.
