Alice O. Moreno, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at her home in Carlsbad. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad. Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM Conv. will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Prayer vigil will be Thursday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m., also at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. to start of vigil at San Jose Catholic Church. Alice Olguin Moreno was born to Jose A. and Luisa Sosa Moreno on March 14, 1925, in Carlsbad. She was a lifelong resident of Carlsbad.
Alice Olguin and Eliseo Moreno were married on Sept. 27, 1949, at San Jose Church, where she was a member her entire life. She was a full-time homemaker, mother who enjoyed bingo, dancing and singing out loud. Her favorite foods included tortillas, tacos and especially menudo. She loved spending time with all family members. She was known for her favorite words, “Take Care and God Bless.”
She is preceded in death by her husband; sons: David Moreno, Henry Moreno, Gilbert Moreno and Raul Moreno and; daughter, Evelyn Moreno.
Alice is survived by sons: Eliseo “Cheo” Moreno Jr. and Joseph (Joey) Moreno; and daughters: Sandra Ramirez, Norma Castillo, Ida Molinar and husband, Armondo, Ruby Olivas and husband, Rafael, Linda Moreno and Emma Hernandez and husband, Mondo, all of Carlsbad, Doris Rubio and husband, Steve, of Roswell; and sister, Connie Galan, of Pico Rivera, Calif.; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are James Aguirre, Ralph Olivas Jr., Brian Leyva, Eliseo Rubio III, Steven Rubio Jr., Josh Moreno and Morris Ramirez.
Honorary pallbearers are Brianna Stallings, Samantha and Amanda Molinar, Georgia and Crystal Castillo, Veronica Ramirez, Amy, Steven, Mark, Michael and Frankie Moreno.
