James was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Greenville, Tenn., to Harold L. Burnside and Joyce N. Richmond. James was a minister and loved sharing the word of God through gospel singing and teaching. He was a Tool and Die specialist for many years and taught his trade at Eastern New Mexico University of Roswell.
James is survived by his wife, Patricia Burnside of the family home in Roswell; four children, Jason Burnside and wife, Ericka of Hobbs; Julianne Stewart and husband Gregory of Temperance, Mich.; James Burnside II of Maumee, currently in Japan; Elizabeth Burnside of Maumee/Roswell; two stepchildren, Eddie Glass and Sonya of Hobbs and Sherry Glenn and Tom of Roswell; helped raise grandchildren, Curtis, Robert and Rachelle Glass, Tonya and Amy Lamb. Other grandchildren include Jessyka Stewart, Seth Burnside, Dugen, Shelby and Shiann Glenn. Brother Timothy Burnside and Christine of Goose Creek, S.C.; sisters, Lynette Bryant of Toledo, Ohio; Susan Burnside-Williams-Sedillo of Roswell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law the Hittle and Washichek families, numerous nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Joyce Burnside; brothers-in-law, David Bryant and Ben Napps.
Everyone who knew Jim will miss his practical and corny jokes and useless (but entertaining) knowledge of history.
