LOS CHAVES, N.M. (AP) — Firefighters have all but officially contained a brush fire that burned 11 acres of grass west of the Rio Grande south of Los Chaves in [auth] Valencia County.
New Mexico State Forestry says the fire apparently had stopped spreading by late Sunday but that full containment wasn’t declared immediately due to the potential for re-ignition of smoldering fuels.
A State Forestry engine will remain on the scene Monday to work on any hot spots that are detected and to make sure all containment lines are holding.
The so-called Lucky 7 fire was sparked by a malfunctioning transformer.
The fire destroyed a shed and for a time threatened several homes.
