Driver shot after driving toward officer

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a person who refused to stop during a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 25 near the northern New Mexico city of Las Vegas [auth] was shot after driving aggressively toward a police officer.

New Mexico State Police say the driver is undergoing treatment at a hospital for injuries suffered in the pursuit that began around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver refused to pull over after being spotted driving in the wrong direction down the interstate, but officers eventually managed to forcibly stop the vehicle.

The driver is accused of then driving aggressively toward an officer.

The driver’s identity hasn’t yet been released.
