CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) — Carlsbad Police Chief Daniel Fierro has abruptly retired.
The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports (http://goo.gl/684HFF) that the 20-year veteran of the department quietly stepped down from the city’s top police job Dec. 31 and some city officials didn’t even know until only a week before.
In a written statement, City Administrator Steve McCutcheon said Fierro was planning to start a business and stay in Carlsbad.
The retirement comes has a number of cities and town across the state are seeking to fill open police chief jobs. Albuquerque currently is conducting a national search for its open spot.
