NM man is arrested in fatal crash on Navajo Nation

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An Upper Fruitland man is in custody in connection with a fatal car accident on the Navajo Nation.

The FBI says 23-year-old Fanderick Chiquito was arrested Tuesday.

He’s expected to make [auth] his initial appearance Thursday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque.

The FBI says tests after the crash determined Chiquito’s blood-alcohol concentration was .29 percent. New Mexico’s legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

Witnesses say Chiquito was the driver of a pickup truck that attempted to pass vehicles in the area of Upper Fruitland on Dec. 23.

Authorities say the truck collided with another vehicle.

A woman who was a passenger in the truck was injured. She was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where she died the next day. Her name hasn’t been released yet.
