More than 70 vying for Rio Rancho police chief job

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) — More than 70 people have applied to be the next police chief of Rio Rancho.

The Albuquerque Journal reports ( that’s the number of applications the city [auth] clerk’s office by Nov. 30 had received.

Once the initial screening is completed, the next step will be to name a select group of finalists, who will then be asked to provide personal and professional references.

Finalists will appear in person during interviews before the city council. No date has been set for the interviews.

The position is open after Police Chief Robert Boone announced his retirement.

It is one of many police chief spots open in New Mexico. Albuquerque and Farmington are also looking for their next police chief.
