Roswell police arrested Jose Garcia on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, less than one hour after a shooting occurred.
Around 2:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to East Eyman Street, where they found medical personnel treating 32-year-old Alfred Chaves’ wounds.
The records report that Chaves had been trying to find a friend who had once lived in the neighborhood and contacted the woman in a nearby house. Garcia arrived at the residence, became angry and grabbed a gun, shooting through the window at Chaves.
According to court records, a good Samaritan stopped when he saw the victim, who was bleeding and appeared to have been shot in the face. An unknown man tried to climb into the vehicle. A woman came to speak with Chaves and he became more agitated. A second man appeared and began to shout at the victim.
Chaves was transported to a local hospital and then flown to Lubbock due to the severity of his injuries. Officers transported Garcia to the Chaves County Detention Center, with bond set at $10,000 cash-or-surety.
