Former Belen detective charged in alleged beating

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A former Belen police detective could face 10 years in prison if convicted of a federal [auth] civil rights charge alleging he assaulted a handcuffed suspect.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says John Lytle was indicted by a federal grand jury in Albuquerque in connection with the March 15, 2012 incident.

Defense attorney John D’Amato did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

The case was investigated by the FBI.
