SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A Santa Fe woman is dead after a high-speed chase and a shooting involving a New Mexico State Police [auth] officer.

Police say the incident started around 1:15 a.m. Thursday when an officer tried to pull over a vehicle for erratic driving.

After a chase, police say the sedan stopped and then backed up toward officers. It struck a police vehicle before police opened fire.

Police say 39-year-old Jeanette Anaya was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Anaya had an arrest history that includes a charge of battery against a household member in 2010 in addition to several charges of failure to appear and failure to pay fines.

It’s the third officer-involved shooting in Santa Fe this year.
