LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A Chaparral man mistakenly released from the Dona Ana County jail in Las Cruces is back in custody.

According to the Sheriff’s [auth] Office, 23-year-old Humberto Escajeda was taken back into custody when he was arrested Thursday on a warrant accusing him of escaping from a peace officer.

The Sheriff’s Office says what it called a “lapse of communication” had allowed Escajeda to go free on Oct. 24.

The Sheriff’s Office says the lapse occurred between when his traffic citations were paid and when he was processed on a no-bond warrant on an aggravated-robbery charge in Texas.
