ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A man accused of stabbing his wife to death in a northwest Albuquerque home in front of their two children has been indicted on murder and multiple other charges.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment Tuesday afternoon of 48-year-old Jerry Chavez.
Prosecutors say Chavez was arrested Oct. 6 after allegedly breaking into Sandra Ferrales’ home and dragging her from the shower before stabbing her.
They say she was stabbed more than 40 times with a kitchen knife.
The couple’s 12-year-old son witnessed the attack and called 911. A 6-year-old son was also in the home. Both were unharmed.
Other charges in the indictment include kidnapping, child abuse and aggravated battery.
Chavez remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center on $1.5 million bond.
