Explosives found in home of person of interest in shooting

The Roswell Police Department responded to the 300 block of Oakwood Street, early Tuesday. According to the police reports, a male in his late 20s went to a residence to collect money from another male. The man was shot multiple times. He was transported to the hospital where he remains.

The RPD executed a search [auth] warrant Tuesday upon the house of a person of interest in the shooting and discovered what they believed to be explosive devices and possible bomb- making equipment.

After obtaining an amended warrant, the RPD called in officials from Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Explosive Ordinance Detail and the Roswell Fire Department to assist. The warrant was served around 7 p.m. and continued beyond 9 p.m. at a location in the 3000 block of Encanto Drive.

RPD Public Information Liaison Sabrina said nearby houses were evacuated. As a precaution, the RPD asked neighboring people to stay inside their homes. Streets were blocked off from the southern section of Encanto Drive to Vista Parkway, and from Delicado to Futura drives.

At the time the Daily Record went to press, RPD indicated the area might be barricaded thoughout much of the night. The combined law-enforcement team successfully detonated one of the devices a little before 10 p.m.
