Police ID man found dead near Rail Runner tracks

BERNALILLO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who was hit and killed by the Rail Runner commuter train as it was headed northbound through Bernalillo [auth] on Saturday.

KOB-TV reports ( Joseph Sandoval Jr. of Torreon was visiting his brother in Bernalillo and had told him he was going to walk to a nearby casino.

Officials say the train engineer had seen something near the tracks but didn’t realize that someone had been hit until blood and hair were found on the train when it arrived in Santa Fe.

Police are waiting for medical investigators to release a toxicology report.
