A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Vancil Ray Fowler, on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military services. Vance, 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. He was born in the Meridian Store near Sweetwater, Oklahoma, in 1925. Vance was a longtime Roswell resident and was a small-business owner, oil field worker, potash miner and a farmer in his life. He served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was one of the most kind, genuine and generous of men. He was a devoted father and papa. Vance was an active member of Grace Community Church and a member of American Legion, the Senior Circle and an avid square dancer with the Enchanted Squares Organization. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeston David Fowler; and his siblings: Ruby Wilson, Alma Kenmore, A.W. Fowler and Jim “Hi” Goodwin. Vance is survived by his children: Linda R. Fowler, of Lovington, NM, and Dr. Jason Vance Fowler and wife, Brooke, of Nuevo, CA; and stepchildren: Kandy Price, of Amarillo, TX, and Rick Hernandez, of Lake City, CO; former wife, June Fowler of Roswell, NM; and daughter-in-law, Lourdes Fowler, of Anson, TX; his brothers: P.O. Goodwin, of Big Lake, TX, John Goodwin, of Dimmitt, TX, Gene Goodwin, of Abilene, TX; and his sisters: Faye Sutton, of Woodward, OK, and Flo Ardrey, of Mannford, OK; and his grandchildren: Jennifer Fowler, Avery Fowler, Dante Fowler and Devyn Fowler; and soon to be great-grandchild Jack Vance Fowler. Vance will be laid to rest in the Mulberry Cemetery in Sweetwater, Oklahoma, at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
