2 men plead not guilty in Aztec shootout

AZTEC, N.M. (AP[auth] ) — Two men have pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, including murder and attempted murder, after a bystander was killed during a July shootout in Farmington.

The Farmington Daily Times ( ) reports that 26-year-old Lawrence Kellywood and 31-year-old Levi Wilson are charged with murder, attempted murder, shooting at a dwelling, two counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit murder.

Both men pleaded not guilty Monday.

Police say Kellywood and Wilson shot at another man at his home on July 27. That man shot back, and a 40-year-old neighbor got caught in the crossfire. He was shot in the chest and died.

Attorneys for Wilson and Kellywood say questions remains about who actually shot the man. Police say the bullet has never been recovered.
