ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An Arizona man has been was sentenced to more than a year in federal prison for an arson conviction on the Navajo reservation.
Prosecutors say 42-year-old Dennis Henry Bainbridge, of Teec Nos Pos, also must serve three years of supervised release after completing his 366-day prison term.
Bainbridge was arrested April 25 on a criminal complaint charging him with arson and was indicted in July.
Prosecutors say he admitted to setting fire to a Navajo woman’s vehicle, which was parked near a residence in Shiprock, N.M.
According to court filings, witnesses say they saw Bainbridge douse the victim’s vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire.
Bainbridge was arrested after he fled from the scene.
Investigators say they later found a jug of gasoline and a lighter in Bainbridge’s vehicle.
