ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The last suspect in a fatal shooting at an Albuquerque restaurant in 2009 reportedly has been arrested in El Salvador.
The Albuquerque Journal and KOB-TV were both reporting Monday that 30-year-old Francisco Melgar-Cabrera was in custody.
According to the U.S.-El Salvador extradition treaty, it could take up to two months to extradite Melgar-Cabrera to New Mexico.
Authorities say Melgar-Cabrera was wanted on charges related to the armed robbery and killing of 34-year-old cook at a Denny’s restaurant in June 2009.
Two other Salvadoran men charged in the case were arrested in Albuquerque days after the shooting.
One was sentenced to 40 years in prison for felony and armed robbery convictions while the other received a 35-year term.
