Memorial services will be held for Melba Pilley, 63, of Roswell, at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Ferguson officiating. Burial to follow at South Park Cemetery. Melba passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, and was reunited with the love of her life, Fred Pilley. Visitation will be on Monday, September 16, 2013, from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be receiving friends on Monday, September 16, 2013, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Melba was born on June 2, 1950, to Willie Mathews and Gillie Rozzel Mathews in Roswell, NM. She loved her family and enjoyed any time she got to spend with them. Melba and her late husband Fred Pilley owned and operated Pilley’s Floor Coverings. She was a life-long resident of Roswell and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary #3701 in Roswell, NM. She had a passion for baking and loved to share her baked goods with family and friends. This included banana nut bread, Hawaiian bread, and zucchini bread. Her specialty was rum cake. She won 1st place at County Fair for her Double-Double rum cake. She enjoyed cooking Sunday family dinners and hosting dinner for holidays and birthday celebrations so family and friends were together. Another favorite thing for her was watching Jeopardy with Fred and their Miniature Sheltie, Rex.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Kevin Bussell and wife, Vanessa; granddaughter, Rayanna Saenz, and grandson, Ty Bussell of Roswell; her son, Craig Pilley and wife, Bambi of Henderson, NV; two grandsons, Jake and partner Rich; Chaz and wife, Kyleene Cox, and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Kolton, and Ryker; her son Matthew Apodaca and wife Elizabeth; granddaughter, Stephanie, grandson Christopher, granddaughter, Matthew, and granddaughter Olivia; daughter Carmen Pilley of Alaska; grandson, Dallin Kerby; granddaughter, Sheigh Drew and her husband Jonathan Drew; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Ella, and Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Gillie Mathews and her husband, Fred Pilley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Gomez, Carmen Scafella, Clay Mathews, Mike Mathews, Al East, Don Bannister, Rudy Garcia, and Donald James.
The family would like to invite family and friends to the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 3201 S. Sunset Roswell, NM, to celebrate Melba’s life immediately following the graveside burial.
