ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A former corrections officer at an Albuquerque jail has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for obstruction of justice and falsifying records.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old Kevin Casaus also [auth] was sentenced Monday to one year of supervised release after serving his prison term.
Casaus and two other corrections officers were charged in the December 2011 beating of an inmate in the shower area of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.
A federal jury in March acquitted Casaus on an assault charge but convicted him on obstruction of justice and falsification of records charges.
Casaus had been accused of lying to county sheriff’s detectives investigating the beating and of making false statements in his incident report about what happened during the reported assault.
