The Roswell Police Department responded to a burglary in progress in the 2700 block of South Washington Avenue around noon on Saturday.
Officers arrested 23-year-old Angel Olguin on charges of aggravated burglary, larceny over $2,500, tampering with evidence, and escaping from police custody.
According to the report, the officer observed a male subject who fit the description of the suspected burglar, carrying a large bag over his shoulder and a shotgun. The suspect, later identified as Angel Olguin, saw the officer and attempted to hide behind trees.
Olguin threw the bag over a fence into a yard on the 600 block of Largo Drive.
RPD spokeswoman Sabrina Morales explained that Olguin initially complied with the officer’s commands to halt. When the police officer handcuffed Olguin he noticed blood on one of Olguin’s hands. While the officer was cleaning his hands, the suspect fled from the police, running into the alley along the 600 block of North Plaza Drive. He entered a residence and pushed the female resident out of the way. When he exited the home, Olguin was apprehended.
The suspect had reportedly stolen a shotgun, two rifles, magazines and ammunition, and a blanket, valued at $3,000, which were recovered and returned to the owner.
Olguin was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries which he received when he broke the window to gain access to the residence. He was transported to the Chaves County Detention Center where he was incarcerated on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
