BERNARDO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a Lemitar man is in custody for allegedly driving impaired and causing a freeway crash that killed a woman from Germany.

New Mexico State Police say 37-year-old Keith Bailey [auth] has been booked into the Socorro County Detention Center. He’s being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say a warrant was obtained to draw blood from Bailey.

He allegedly showed signs of intoxication when police made contact with him after Wednesday afternoon’s two-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 south of Bernardo.

Investigators say Bailey allegedly rear-ended a car that was carrying four people.

Authorities say a backseat passenger identified as 65-year-old Birthe Rasmussen Moehring of Berlin was killed in the crash. The other three people escaped injury.
