BERNARDO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a Lemitar man is in custody for allegedly driving impaired and causing a freeway crash that killed a woman from Germany.

New Mexico State Police say 37-year-old Keith Bailey has been booked into the Socorro County Detention Center. He’s being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say a warrant was obtained to draw blood from Bailey.

He allegedly showed signs of intoxication when police made contact with him after Wednesday afternoon’s two-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 south of Bernardo.

Investigators say Bailey allegedly rear-ended a car that was carrying four people.

Authorities say a backseat passenger identified as 65-year-old Birthe Rasmussen Moehring of Berlin was killed in the crash. The other three people escaped injury.
