ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico and several other groups are launching a campaign to defeat a proposed late-term abortion ban in [auth] Albuquerque.

The alliance of community organizations and women’s advocacy groups Thursday announced formation of “Respect ABQ Women” to fight an expected ballot proposal to ban on abortions after 20 weeks.

Tara Shaver says her group, Project Defending Life, has turned in more than double the number of signatures needed to put the question to voters.

She says Albuquerque is being targeted because it is home to one of the few clinics in the country that offers late-term abortions.
