Rodriguez arrested, charged with aggravated assault, burglary

Police arrested Vic[auth] tor Vincent Rodriguez, 39, Wednesday. He is charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, interference with communications and felon in possession of a firearm after an incident that occurred in the 300 block of East Reed Street.

The one-time resident of Albuquerque was apprehended in the 300 block of East Jefferson Street.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Magistrate Court on Thursday, the victim had left her house to speak with a neighbor. She told officials she had had previous problems with Rodriguez. When she returned to her residence, Rodriguez entered the house through the front door with an SKS rifle.

The documents state that she told Rodriguez that he was not welcome.

He refused to leave and said he was going to borrow her car, and if she did not let him, he was going to “mess it up.” When she attempted to call the police, he allegedly grabbed her phone and stepped on it, after which time, he began to hit her and attempted to strangle her.

Investigators learned that he had been convicted of felony murder and was recently released from prison after serving 10 years. Rodriguez was taken to the Chaves County Detention Center where he remains on a $250,000 surety bond.
