A memorial service and rosary will be held at St. John’s Church on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 7 p.m. for Anna Rae Chavez Fletcher, of Aurora, Colo., who went on to be with our Good Lord in Heaven on July 6, 2013, after a long-term illness.
Anna Rae was born on July 13, 1943, in Roswell. She was preceded in death by her parents: Max and Anna Chavez; her son, Jeffrey Fletcher; and brother, Ernest Chavez.
Anna Rae graduated from Roswell High School in 1962. After [auth] graduation, she was employed as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force Missile Silos and Walker Air Force Base in Roswell. Anna Rae married Gary Fletcher on April 15, 1968, in Roswell.
The couple lived in Albuquerque for short period of time and later moved to Aurora, Colo., where they made their permanent home and they raised their twin sons, James and Jeffery. Anna Rae was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt, who loved spending time with her family and friends.
Anna Rae volunteered at Cherry Creek Schools, where her boys attended school. She later became a full-time secretary in the Special Education Department of Horizon Middle School in Aurora. After living in Denver for so many years, Anna Rae became a big fan of the Denver Broncos and their quarterback John Elway. She kept up with the team and stats for many years.
Anna Rae loved coming to Roswell and spending quality time with her older sister Mary Gonzales. During her stay, they would cook all their favorite Mexican dishes and go shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with her brothers, Joe and Ernest Chavez, and other family members.
Anna Rae will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Anna Rae will be interred in Aurora, Colo., at the Rocky Mountain Memorial Park beside her son, Jeffrey. Anna Rae is survived by her husband, Gary; her son, James Fletcher, of Aurora, Colo.; her sister, Mary Gonzales, of Roswell; her brother, Joe Chavez, of Alamogordo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
