Police ID woman killed along Interstate 40

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police are investigating the death of a woman who was struck and killed along Interstate 40.

Police identified the woman as 63-year-old [auth] Nancy Smith. They say she was driving east on the interstate Friday evening when she pulled over onto the left-hand shoulder.

She was hit by a passing pickup truck after she got out of her vehicle. Police say she was killed instantly.

Officer Robert Gibbs says it’s not clear why Smith pulled over.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Oscar Morales, and his passenger remained at scene and were interviewed by police.
