FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — Two Farmington brothers are facing federal charges for allegedly dumping thousands of gallons of raw sewage on federal land in northwestern New Mexico.
Prosecutors say 54-year-old Anthony Wiggins and 51-year-old Alex Wiggins were arraigned Thursday on a conspiracy charge and three counts of depredation of government property.
The Farmington Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/1do9OYv) that Anthony Wiggins is the primary operator of A-1 Septic Service.
Prosecutors accuse the brothers of dumping more than 3,000 gallons of sewage on Bureau of Land Management property in a rural area of San Juan County.
The investigation began when a tip came in about black sludge on a county road. Hidden cameras later filmed the brothers dumping sewage on two separate days in March.
Officials estimate the cleanup cost at $28,500.
