NM teacher accused of sexual contact with minors

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — An elementary school teacher in Las Cruces is in custody for alleged inappropriate behavior with some of his students.

Las Cruces police say 46-year-old Jesus L. Solis is being held on [auth] suspicion of 52 counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.

They say the charges against Solis involve three girls who were students in his fourth-grade class at Desert Hills Elementary School.

Solis allegedly supervised at least two of the students during an after-school program this past academic year.

The girls told investigators Solis allegedly touched them inappropriately over their clothing multiple times.

The incidents reportedly occurred between August 2011 and this May.

Solis was arrested Friday and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a cash-only bond of $80,000.

It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
