Richard A. Byrd, 64, of Vaughn, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the family ranch.
Richard “Dick” was born in Amarillo, Texas, on June 24, 1949, to Bob H. and the late Bettye Byrd. He grew up on the family’s ranch in Vaughn with brothers Bob Jr. and Mike. Dick attended high school at the New Mexico Military Institute in [auth] Roswell and graduated from college at the University of New Mexico with a degree in history.
Dick married Judith L. Sadowski on June 10, 1972, in Peru, Illinois. They made their home at the family ranch in Vaughn where they raised cattle, sheep, and horses.
Dick is survived by his wife, Judy; sons Robbie and wife Margret, and Jason; and his granddaughter, Bree; as well as numerous family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the New Mexico Military Institute Chapel on Friday, July 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Charlie Overton of Yeso officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Wilson, Jess Eckel, Scott McNally, Cody Lightfoot, Rusty Roberts and Chris Byrd. Honorary pallbearers are all friends and neighbors who selflessly gave of their time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches, 6209 Hendrix Road NE, 2FL, Albuquerque, NM 87110-1334.
