LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Newly appointed New Mexico State University President Garrey Carruthers says he’s already discussed the open position of university provost with a Colorado academic who also was a finalist for the NMSU presidency.
Carruthers says he discussed the provost’s position with Daniel Howard, a former NMSU department head and current dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver.
Carruthers has proposed foregoing a national search for a new provost.
The Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/Zw0ZIX ), Carruthers says Howard already has been vetted through the national search for NMSU’s presidency but says he’d still likely interview Howard for several hours.
Howard spent 20 years at NMSU, including heading the biology department and as the interim associate dean for research in the College of Arts and Sciences.
