SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez travels to the nation’s capital next week for a re-election fundraiser featuring prominent Republicans from across the country.
Martinez political adviser Jay McCleskey said Tuesday’s fundraiser is the first for the governor this year in Washington, D.C.
Among the “featured guests” at the fundraising reception are House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who’s a tea party favorite.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is among several current and former governors headlining the event.
Martinez is the nation’s first Hispanic female governor.
Democratic Attorney General Gary King plans to run against Martinez next year, and several Democratic legislators say they’re considering the race.
