ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Investigators say a man suspected of intruding into an Albuquerque home and was later shot by the homeowner may have been unaware that he walked into the wrong home.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Sgt. Aaron Williamson said the injured man, who has not been identified, was at a social gathering in the same neighborhood and later entered the home through a door that was accidentally unlocked.
Authorities say the man entered the house early Wednesday and the homeowner shot the man in the torso. Deputies say the homeowner and his family were behind a locked bedroom door.
The man was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he was listed in stable but critical condition.
The suspect’s luxury BMW with Virginia plates was parked in the home’s driveway.
