2 jail inmates escape from van in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities are searching for two jail inmates who escaped from a transport van in Albuquerque.

Metropolitan Detention Center officials say 20-year-old Andreas Macias and 37-year-old Brandon Davis were picked up from [auth] court late Monday afternoon and were both remanded back into custody.

While en route back to the jail, the van stopped to pick up an inmate who was being discharged from a hospital and also being back into custody.

Authorities say Macias and Davis kicked the back door to the van open and escaped on foot about 6 p.m.

They say both inmates were wearing handcuffs at the time of their escape, but neither had an orange MDC inmate uniform.

New Mexico State police, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and Albuquerque police have been notified of the inmates’ escape.
