Memorial graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, at Morton Memorial Cemetery in Morton, Texas, for James “Jimmy” Overton Hill, 87, of Roswell who passed away on March 24, 2013.
Jimmy was born Jan. 6, 1926, in a farm house near Eldorado, Okla., to James “Jim” Oren Hill and Rachel [auth] “Doll” Carpenter Ford Hill. He was the youngest of four siblings. His parents preceded him in death, as did his three siblings, Oren, Reba and Nona, and a son James “Little Jimmy” Overton Hill III.
Jimmy is survived by five nieces and six nephews.
Jimmy attended school at Lahoma No. 1, until his family moved to West Texas in 1934. They were part of a migration during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. He then attended school at Morton, Texas. While going to school, he also farmed with this father. He enjoyed playing basketball. He sometimes rode horses to go to the movie theater, and also to hunt coyotes. When his son Little Jimmy passed away in 1984, he moved to Roswell. He remained there until he passed away.
