Alamogordo man dies in truck-train collision

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) — A 60-year-old man died after his truck was struck by a train south of Alamogordo.

Baldomero P. Barajas of Alamogordo was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday morning’s [auth] collision between the train and the truck.

No one on the train’s crew was injured.

State police spokesman Sgt. Marc Davis tells the Alamogordo Daily News ( ) that the conductor of the Union Pacific train noticed that Barajas didn’t look up at the train until right before the train sounded its horn and struck the truck.

Davis said he believes Barajas was concentrating on something else and that the collision was attributed to driver inattentiveness.

The intersection is marked with yield and railroad-crossing signs but didn’t have crossing barriers.
